After reading several of your posts moongleam, what is your obsession with Alpha Video label? I really can't understand the logic of if Alpha Video label has it out then it's Public Domain! I'm sure there is hundreds if not thousands of tv shows/features/shorts on this archive.org that Alpha does not sell? so does this mean they are NOT public domain?

please do explain this logic? if Alpha sells something then it's public domain? and if Alpha does not sell it then it can't possible be Public Domain?

@katieq

Don't waste your time with Moongleam. I've already had this discussion before with him. The guy clearly doesn't "get it" and never will. He will talk s@%t about me and then when I call him out on his bulls%^& and how he works at Alpha Video and tries to shamefully promote them in just about every post on here...he always has nothing to say and always backs off.

The guy is totally clueless and tries to fit in by making up what he thinks are cool hip words that all the cool kids are saying now like "youtube punk".

Billy Mays out.....

I wanna get this settled once and for all...the copyright books from the us copyright office are not 100percent correct...I dont know if anyone on here clicked on the links that I put up here to recherch Call Her Savage 1932 to see if I was looking it up correctly or not but heres the facts...a while ago moongleam put up the same link put up here now to help me...I put that link in my favorites in internet explorer and have used it ever since.when asking what I did wrong and gave an example of what links I had used ,moongleam gave me the very same links that I was using...call her savage1932 was not there..I was given the exact same advise as I got before....but when I was told this film was not pd the renewal info was pasted in this forum earlier-not a link to the 1960 book...I wantdf to know how moongleam got this information..not instructions on how to do it wrong again...to katig-alpha video sells many pd videos-thats all they sell...but do noteven come close to the amt of pd videos available-so youre both right...for a quick check look at alpha video..but then again they dont even scratch the surface of pd films...Ive been collecting films since 1972 on my super 8 movie projector.then on vhs tape..so Ive seen a lot of pd stuff offered for years...and even those vhs companies-one in buisness for 20 years were wrong-as I found out with the movie I just posted...my wish is that someone at internet archives will post the correct way to check for copyrights so that we all have a way to find this info that is at least close to being correct...that way there won't be any misinformation or arguments on here...Ive been looking at this site for many years now and until now havent tried to upload any films or even ask about them...inthe begining of this site it seamed if anyone asked a question or uploaded something wrong they were slammed like a kid trying to join a clubhouse that wasnt likes by bullies...things have calmed down on here since then...and I will continue to post films...asking first if I really have a pd film or not..as I just want to share my love of older films with people...thats the bottom line...all I wanted to do is show folks what a clara bow talking picture was like...being recently handicapped one of my daily pleasures it to look on here and see if anyone has uploaded a treasure that I havent seen in a while or even knew existed...maybe when we all figure out this copyright thing we all can share out knowlege and make it a pleasure to come on here and see what really cool publis domain movies other people are willing to share with us...god bless u all...KEN

You are correct. The catalogs are not 100% correct to begin with. Add to that some of the scans of the catalogs are not the best, and the chances increase that you will not find what you are looking for. If your search comes up empty the first time, try something a little different. If you search for 'Call Her Savage' and come up empty, try 'Call Her', or 'Her Savage' etc. You just might find what you're after.
Also don't forget to check a two year span. Using Call Her Savage for example...the renewal window starts in 1959. Start there and then move to 1960

I have downloaded the catalogs to my machine, and search locally instead of online. The catalogs can be found here.
http://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Acopyrightrecords%20AND%20subject%3A%22Copyright%20Records%20%E2%80%93%20Motion%20Pictures%22

I like the pdf version, but there are other flavors you can choose from if so inclined.

Regarding how Moongleam got this information...I believe that (s)he sometimes uses other catalog scans. One of which is from the Hathi Trust if I'm not mistaken. I don't have the url for it. Also I believe that (s)he uses search software written by (him)herself that is better at recognizing misspellings etc.

I also would love to know the corrrect way to look up copyright registrations and renewals in those online books/pamphlets. I have tried many times and can't get the search to work properly and it makes it very difficult when things aren't spelled correctly due to digitizing the books/pamphlets. I found it very frustrating with no end result of knowing copyright status?

I think moongleam should have a gag order put on him/her for the Alpha Video label ads in all his/her posts....all in favor!!!!!!!1
